Exactly, what I wanted.
Bought one in 2018. Brittle and unusable by 2021. Bought another. Brittle and unusable by June 2023, pieces brake right off if it’s pulled into position. Covered with white cover when off, stored indoors in the winter. Not buying another from this manufacturer. There are some reviews on here saying they only last about 3 years, I’ll agree with that. The pro rated warranty only covers the seams separating. The seams are fine. The rest of the cover is brittle, and the bubbles are disintegrating. I’ve had the pool since 2001 and have done nothing different but buy 2 covers from this manufacturer. Two failures. I don’t know how there are so many 5 star ratings. It’s a great cover for the first season.
I never write a review on any product but I just had to write about how good this cover is!! Our pool has not been below 80 all summer, most days it's averaging 84-85. We too had the blue cover and were hesitant to spend the extra money on this cover but based on reviews we decided to go for it. We wish we had sooner!!! Previous summers our pool would get to the high 70's maybe the occasional 80. This cover really does retain the heat very well. We also bought the UV cover for when we have the blanket rolled up, hopefully that will help prolong it. I noticed some reviews commented on the heaviness of the blanket on the reel so we just added a few more straps to the blanket to roll it up and haven't had a problem.
I have use some sort of solar cover for over 20 years on an above ground pool. Solar covers have only advantages except for the effort required to put then on and remove them and standing rain water on them. So the simpler and easier it is to handle it, the more likely you are to use it consistently. I found that those 14 mil covers are by far the best for handling. It is their stiffness that makes them so much easier to handle compared to the thin flimsy one. Also the larger bubbles trap less water between them (compared to ones with smaller bubbles the size of regular mailing bubble wrap) so surprisingly they feel lighter to handle when wet than some of the thinner ones. Because of their stiffness those thick one are easier to roll to get them off the pool and to unroll to spread them back on the pool surface and once rolled, to handle. Or, if the trapped rain water is dirty with debris and algae from standing rain water, it is possible to somewhat contain it within the rolled cover and drain it outside the pool (but it may take strength because of the trapped water). Ticker covers don't get bunched-up by the filter's current in smaller pools like the very light and flexible one and are much less prone to be partially "sunk" by the current. Lastly, trying to unfold a wet thin cover, that sticks to itself and is all bunched-up on the surface of a pool can be a trying experience. If alone, you nearly need to clamp an end to the side of the pool otherwise it just float to you when you pull on it to spread it. So in my experience, the thicker the material, the longer it last, the far easier it is to handle, the less frustration and the more consistently it is used.
It works well at building/retaining heat, but mine has started to disintegrate after 3 seasons. I can't unroll it without it ripping at this point. 3 Stars because it's still better than the cheap ones.
This was shipped quickly and seems like a good quality thicker cover. It was supposed to be 16 wide but we ended up having to cut 9 or 10 inches off. The only (minor I hope) problem thus far is that the one seam seems very stiff ridged and has not yet settled...(keeps air pockets) so cannot yet give a perfect rating. We are new pool owners so will definately be checking out your site again. Prices were good and no problems getting order.
